ASCC Round 1, 2002 - Comp Report

Dates: 2002
Duration: Weekend

I arrived on a friday night and set up camp and in the morning went for a bit of a drive to collect some wood for the fire, at this stage i was only coming to watch vic and paul compete and spent the morning chatting to a few people around the campsite.

While talking to vic and paul while they were signing up i mentioned that i wouldn't mind having a go and chris answered that he would navie for me if i wanted to compete so before i had a chance to change my mind we signed up.

The competition involved driving three short courses that were run at the same time over very difficult terrain on the saturday, driving a man made extremely difficult course under lights on the saturday night then on the sunday morning we had a hillclimb to do.

There was also a optional event they called the "superman event" which anyone of the competitors, officials or spectators could enter, this involved driving a steep gully exit then turning sharp left up and over a large log.

SATURDAY.

Track 3: we chose this track as it looked the easiest and lined up behind vic so i could see which way he did it, he got badly hung up on a very large rock near the end and had to winch out so i was not too hopefull of getting through as i was just on 35" BFG mud terrains and only a limited slip diff with 4.625 diff ratios.

We started up the gully and dodged some large rocks and logs but got hung up momentarily about half way along, a bit of a wiggle got us moving again and i just aimed the right hand wheel over the middle of the rock that vic got stuck on and we clawed our way up the rock mound to the finish for a score of 15, woo hoo !!

Track 2: We waited for our turn and when it finally came mother nature let loose with a huge downpour which cancelled the competition...bugger!

Saturday night was still wet and raining but a couple of the guys had a go at the Gorge under lights, no one actually made it unaided but they sure had fun trying.

SUNDAY.

Sunday morning saw some muddy fun on one of the gully exits by some of the guys.

We gave it a miss but went over to watch the mud rally course for a while before packing up our wet gear and heading for home.

Can't wait for the next ASCC :>)
