ASCC Exhibition Pine Rivers Show 2003 - Comp Report

Dates: August 2-3, 2003
Duration: Weekend

some pics on http://forums.tufftoys.net/index.php under the general section.

I arrived on friday morning and parked the truck on the track with the others as they were on display during the day, the comp started under lights that night.
The track was built just in front of the main grandstand and started with driving up a mound of dirt against the side of a container and down the dirt ramp on the other side, the dirt was not quite wide enough at the top and the wheels had to jump up the vertical side of the container for a short distance, everyone got this right but if someone had of spun wheels and moved the dirt it would have got tricky very quickly.
We had to wait at the top for the go ahead and then drove down the dirt ramp and up to a rock wall about 600 high to a plateau of dirt then we dropped off that into a valley of very large rocks whilst keeping one wheel on a log that ran thru the valley, several guys slipped off the log and had to be lifted off by the bobcat.
after the valley the dirt mound put you on a bad side angle and with some large rocks to go down if you went straight ahead so most kept to the left which put you on a severe side angle and some guys [and ladies] had to accelerate off to stop from slipping...

.....we then had to do a three point turn to line up at a rock wall with some huge rocks, lots of guys did wheel lifts to get up this wall on to the dirt mound, looked even better from our side as the back of the trucks were facing the stands.
we next dropped down to ground level again then over another mound of dirt with some huge wheel travel happening.
Next up was a log wall about 2 1/2 metres tall with another 400 mm log across the approach at an angle, i got stuck with the rear diff holding the tyres off the ground but chris moved a log under one wheel which got me moving again, the bullbar was scraping up the log wall but with a heavy right foot we got up on top of the wall and over the loose dirt at the top then it was only a drop off down the dirt to the finish, everyone had trouble with this section and some had to be recovered..........

the new tyres gripped really well at 10 psi and still gave me good clearance so i was pretty happy with them but wished i had of made the track without getting stuck so when they decided to have a timed run i decided to have a go at that but not go fast and just concentrate on making it without stopping.
The bobcat changed the track around a fair bit and then we had our timed run, i just took it easy and got a really good time as most of the others got stuck at one spot or another and we did it with out stopping and only had the one reverse at the three point turn.
we then had to stop while the fireworks were on and gibbon came and said g'day icon_smile.gif
after the fireworks we had a "longest jump" competition but as i don't have bracing on my diff i gave this one a miss.
that night i rolled out my swag in the container with glen and it was not too cold in there icon_cool.gif ...........

saturday night the track was changed again to make it harder still and we got stuck with the front diff on that angled log again but managed to wriggle free and got up the even higher log wall ok.
After the fireworks they changed the track again and we had another timed run but only a few of us tried it.pegasus came over to say g'day icon_biggrin.gif and then i packed up and headed home under the cover of darkness as i had the 38's on and didn't want to get noticed by the boys in blue, stupid me didn't realise until half way home that the number plates were still behind the seat icon_redface.gif
We all had a great time with the 40 series doing a CV and the bobtail rangie possibly doing some mechanical damage [ i left while they were checking it out] the only casualtys.
they didn't score it but we did really well anyway and enjoyed ourselves immensly.
